Script for Final Film (Draft)

Script (Draft)
Girl 1 (Vicky) : Are you setting in to the house well?

Girl 2 (Cassia) : Yeah I guess, im adjusting to it, Although its weird cause the previous owners wanted to get rid of it really quick, they kinda gave me the creeps. Anyway, my parents should be home soon

(power cuts)

Girl 1: Oh my god, what was that?

Girl 2: Oh, it must be the power. I think i have a torch somewhere, ill go turn it back on

Girl 1: Do you want me to come with you?

Girl 2: No its ok its just in the basement, wait here

*Cassia leaves room*

(later on after Cassia's death)
Girl 1: *walks around house trying to find her* Alice?

NOTE: After filming our film and editing it together, we realised that it was 6 minutes long and needed to be shortened. One of the scenes that we felt needed to be cut was the conversation between the two characters as shown above, meaning the final shortened opening does not have any real dialogue.

Final Animatic for Film Opening Task

We decided a few more scenes needed to be added to our film, so we included them in this animatic.
After showing our animatic to our classmates, we received the following positive feedback:

  • good sound, helped tell the story
  • structure was fluent and clear
  • the villain isnt fully revealed which adds mystery
  • good following and understanding of horror conventions - basement scene
  • setting was good - homes are usually homely and comforting however lighting contrasts this.
  • good range of shots and movements
  • low key lighting creates anxiety
The following were points in which we could improve on for our final film:
  • we could use extreme close-ups to convey the fear on the character's faces
  • the narrative was at times unclear

Animatic for Final Film Task

Our group came up with the idea for our final film opening, and after we wrote out scene-by-scene directions, Van drew and pieced together our animatic.

Location Pictures for Film

This shot is of a pair of gates that are positioned at the entrance of the house we are going to use for our film. They are extremely old, and are adorned with large metal bolts and hooks which make the gates seem scary and imposing. They look like they would fit in with the horror genre, and would perhaps be suitable to use in our own opening in an establishing shot to set the tone of the film.
This shot is a close up showing the bolts and locks seen on the gates, and I showed the potential use of the key hole by placing a person behind it looking in. We may not include the eye, but this shot clearly highlights the gothic details on the gates.
I took this shot whilst standing at the top of a staircase, looking down at the floor below. At the bottom of the stairs is a figure standing at the entrance of the next room, with the light from that room outlining their silhouette. The carpet is red, which links with death or blood, which fits with the theme of horror. We may decide to use a similar shot in our own film, as it fits in with our storyline.

This is a shot of the hatch which leads into the cellar, which one of the characters climbs up into. She will be standing on the steps, with her upper body in the room above. She will shine her torch around before being dragged up into the room by a mysterious entity. Whilst dark, the stairs look very scary, as the white paint gives off a luminous glow. This scene will hopefully seem very closed-in and claustrophobic, which is why I feel that it will look very effective in our end product, as it clearly links with the conventions of horror and thriller.

This is an alternate view of the shot above; with the camera looking down towards the cellar rather than upwards towards the hatch. This shot shows the entrance at the bottom of the stairs, which is where our victim will begin her ascension.
